WASWEP WORKSHOPS

Future dates: TBD

OPEN LEVELS, BEGINNERS AND ESTABLISHED WRITERS ALL ENCOURAGED

RETURNERS AND NEWBIES / NEVER THE SAME/ ALWAYS OPEN

NO GENRE LIMITS, ALL GENRE OR NON-GENRE WELCOME

This generative & explorative class is designed to help you break away from your brain’s established patterns.

Using a mix of somatic techniques, games of chance, restructuring of craft, memory work, divination techniques and elements of play, we’ll generate new work, scenes, and language in order to unshackle our ideas from limiting frameworks and discover new pathways into storytelling.

Using this momentum to explore voice, perspective, dialogue, action and plot we’ll find new ways to learn about ourselves and our characters through exercises that help us access vulnerability, and possibility. During our seven sessions together, we’ll play with fresh approaches to creative discovery. We’ll work through writing a first draft of a complete story, playing through the phases of the beginning / middle / end using untraditional techniques that can help us source unlimited outcomes.

Each session will go differently—but there will always be screens-off writing time with voice guidance followed by group discussions, questions and observations.

Our final classes we’ll get a chance to share some of the work that’s been written.

Testimonials:

Leah's writing instruction is lucid, accessible, and ego-less. She truly wants each person in her classes to be their best and it shows in the individual attention she pays to each student. Her methods of generating writing are both useful and fun! I recommend her workshops to all writers at all levels.

Leah knows how to create space, activate imagination and stimulate a juicy ripe experience.  In class, my inner critic gently let go of the sledgehammer and picked up a feather, to dust off routine, to tickle fear, to trust our time writing, and to know a feather can also just be a feather. Every session was unique and fresh, and if I was prepared or not, Leah’s ability to simultaneously decompress and light up is GOLD!

I loved Leah’s class. She invited me to pay attention to my own experience, but, by distancing me from my ‘plan,’ she introduced a wide range of prompts, that came from me, but brought out by her. She understands that words come from the body, so she had us try things to make spaces for new experiences with writing. It was fun and I’d do it again.

I am SO grateful for your facilitation and encouragement throughout these last two months. The space you created for us was truly unique and inspiring. The processes you took us through helped me dive into the relationship with my writing in a different way than I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing before. I can't thank you enough.

"Process and Play" and "Writing a Story with Experimental Processes" with Leah Sophia Dworkin revivified my writing and writing practice with a wonderful variety of exercises, techniques, and prompts. In a supportive and engaging environment, Leah encourages one's creativity with thoughtful, wise, and warm instruction. Workshopping in such an environment provides invaluable insight and pinpoints any desired areas of focus. WIth respect and curiosity, talented artists are given the necessary space to employ new ideas, begin a project, or explore a new medium. Beyond the course, my writing now unspools in new and fascinating directions, and I find myself often smiling at the page. :)
